The long-awaited Trollbeads Day beads are here and The Wings of Amber were totally worth the wait! On our site we will be listing all the beads individually as we think you should be able to create your own look and not need to commit to a $750 kit. There are 2 different bead designs, an amber with 1 bug and an amber with 2 bugs on the bead. These “bugs” are silver pieces that are anchored with a small silver stud that goes approximately 1/2 way into the bead. I am pretty confident that these will not be coming loose anytime soon, unlike when things were glued on TB items ( think the dichroic lock and the pearl lock).

It is so fitting that Trollbeads has chosen to have an Amber bead as their showcase item for the year. Amber, aka Nordic Gold, can be found all over the Baltic, so to celebrate Troll’s Danish roots this is a perfect medium! We are especially smitten with Amber because of it’s fascinating history. Used for over 6 thousand years as adornment or for healing purposes, humans have had a rich history with amber. Ancient legends from around the world depict amber as tears of gods and goddesses, souls of courageous tigers, tokens of love from missing loved ones taken by the water and fossilized honey of hard-working bees of long ago.

As you may know as a Trollbeads fan, amber is fossilized tree resin. When a tree becomes damaged resin makes its way to the forest floor, where if it is undisturbed, it will begin to harden. It may seem like something that happens all the time, but amber takes millions of years to harden and develop into the material we use on our bracelets today.

Amber colors vary greatly and has much to do with its age and the type of tree it originates from. Very light amber like the Alabaster is “younger” while colors like the Carmel Sunset is older. We were lucky enough to get a great color variation in our Trollbeads Day Beads for 2018. I mostly gravitate towards the Maple Syrup type colors with plenty of crackling in them. Trollbeads Day Amber inspiration bracelet 2018

For this inspiration post I used quite a few dark beads and minimal silver to really let the silver on the amber beads stand out, but we would love to see what you have done with all of your Trollbead Day Beads! What are your thoughts on the Trollbeads Day release? Are you an amber fan or were you hoping for more glass and silver?
